¿Cuál de las siguientes opiniones de un equipo de miembros de la Gerencia de Logística es la correcta?
A. Un segmento de mercado es una fragmentación geográfica de consumidores del mismo nivel de poder adquisitivo.
B. Un segmento de mercado es una etapa del ciclo de vida del producto.
C. Un segmento de mercado es un determinado conjunto de personas o empresas u Organizaciones No-Gubernamentales cuyas expectativas son muy similares.
D. Un segmento de mercado es un nicho estable en el tiempo y en el espacio territorial.

Hoy estamos fabricando con mucho exito iluminacion de estado solido(LEDS). Todavia es un producto muy nuevo y es un segmento pequeño del mercado de iluminaciòn. Con la velocidad evolutiva que tenemos en 5 o 7 años dejara de ser un segmento para convertirse en “el” dominante del mercado de iluminaciòn. Creo que los segmentos son finalmente una etapa del ciclo de vida del producto.

Haciendo una elección por descartamiento: La ‘B’ se limita a un periodo de tiempo y no a los componentes de un mercado; la opción ‘C’ me parece restringida porque los Estados pueden ser perfectamente actores/consumidores en mercados a diferente escala (Mercado del petróleo, mercado de armas, etc.); Una eventual opción ‘D’ fusionada con la ‘A’ me parecería una respuesta más adecuada.
Pero ya que la opción ‘A’ hace alusión a una ‘fragmentación geográfica’ y que, esto es manifiestamente limitado (Hablamos de mercado no de sectores o áreas) opto por la opción ‘D’; pese a que nicho pueda ser interpretado de forma ambigua.

En el punto A, por ejemplo si mi segmento son “jugadores de futbol en argentina” y mi productos zapatillas, mi segmento contempla personas de alto o bajo poder adquisitivo… por lo que considero que no está correctamente definido. El segmento no necesariamente debe ser del mismo poder adquisitivo.
En el punto B no se está segmentando, simplemente se está observando una realidad que es que el producto esté en un determinado punto de su ciclo de vida, pero es así para todo el mercado no solo para un nicho particular.
El punto C no es correcto. Las empresas gubernamentales son un nicho de mercado y no esta contemplado en esa definición taxativa.
Por todo lo anterior y de acuerdo a la información del caso, mi elección es la respuesta “D” porque al hablar de nicho estamos reconociendo a un grupo homogéneo dentro del total del mercado. Si hago la salvedad que al definir un segmento es importante que el mismo se mantenga en el tiempo y territorio aunque su estabilidad o dinámica no es posible ser definida.

Más que entendido está que es la opción D. Las opciones B Y C no tienen nada que ver, ya que las fases del ciclo de vida de un producto son introducción, crecimiento, madurez y declive; y por otra parte, las expectativas de personas u organizaciones no ayudan a definir un segmento de mercado. Y dejó para lo último la opción A, que no la creo correcta por el hecho de que el poder adquisitivo es una de las variables que puede ayudar a definir un segmento, pero no es la única y en algunos casos (pocos) no se toma en cuenta. Por lo tanto creo que es la opción D la más apropiada a la opinión de una gerencia de logística, ya que buscan un conjunto de personas u organizaciones de características similares (que forman un nicho) con necesidades no atendidas o parcialmente atendidas, que sea estable en tiempo y territorio para poder desarrollar su negocio de la mejor manera.

Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

Whilst theres no denying this post has a different tone to your others, thank-you for being honest. I think the way we perceive others is a direct reflection of how we are feeling internally. I went to work in a shopping centre a couple of weekends ago, and felt the EXACT same way you did at Disneyland. Everywhere I looked, I was repusled. By people: their food, their outfit, their PDA, their demeanour, their general lack of self respect and control. Instead of feeling superior (okay, maybe I did a little), I felt miserable, alienated and aloof.
